The Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for an incoming freshman who has at least one parent who attended or graduated from Routt Catholic High School. Students apply for the scholarship by writing a 400-500 word essay entitled “What the tradition of Routt Catholic High School means to me.” Essays must be turned into the Development Office by deadline. The Alumni Association Universal Scholarship is a $700 scholarship for an incoming freshman. Students apply by writing a 400-500 word essay entitled, “What the importance of a Christian education means to me.” Students with a parent who is an alumnus/alumna of Routt are eligible to apply for both Alumni Association scholarships. James and Louise Angelo were lifelong farmers in Morgan County. They were members of the Church of Our Saviour, where their love and trust of the Lord gave them the strength to lead others to know God. The Angelos were quiet and humble people who worked the ground to produce a rich harvest to feed others. They believed in the future of farming and the skills needed to care for the land. It was their hope to extend their knowledge of God and farming to the youth of our schools, giving them the opportunity to excel and to be outstanding in the field of agriculture.
Established in 2015, the scholarship is awarded to a student (sophomore-senior) who has demonstrated financial need and is in good academic standing. Preference will first be given to students who show an interest in agriculture or education. Students apply by writing a 2-3 paragraph essay entitled, “The importance of living a faith-based life and how I live my faith.” Applicants are asked to be specific in their telling of how faith plays a fundamental role in their lives. The family of John J. Bordenkircher established The Bordenkircher Leadership scholarship in 2018 to assist a sophomore, junior or senior based on strong academic ability and contributions to Routt through a variety of activities. Selection is based on the student’s academic ability (3.25 GPA or higher) as well as his or her leadership abilities and contributions to the school. The family of John J. Bordenircher established The Bordenkircher Memorial Scholarship in his memory in 2011 to assist a new student based on the student’s financial need and desire to attend Routt. The student must have a history of no major disciplinary problems, and academic standing of a “C” average or better.

The Burke Family Legacy Scholarship was established in honor of the Martin and Patsy Burke Family. The scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a returning student who carries an overall GPA of B or better (3.0 on 4.0 scale). Preference is given to children or grandchildren of alumni. The Brad Schone Scholarship was established in 2010 in memory of Brad Schone. The scholarship is awarded to an upperclassman who has demonstrated financial need (the family has special circumstances that would benefit from extra assistance, such as illness or job loss) and shows respect for others. If no student’s family has special circumstances, the scholarship is awarded to a student living in a single-parent household. The scholarship recipient is selected by the principal and the guidance counselor, or by other persons designated by the school principal.

The family of Charlie Kaufmann established a scholarship in his memory in 2019. Charlie graduated from Routt High School in 1969. Following high school, he served in the United States Army. After his time serving our country, Charlie was employed at GTE for many years, and, later, was an owner of the Irish Toad for more than 20 years. Charlie married Barbara Bergschneider in 1971 at the Church of Our Saviour and together they had five sons. Charlie had a contagious smile that beamed whenever he spoke about his family. He was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour and an avid fan of all things Routt. He never hesitated to donate time, money or resources to help the school. The scholarship is awarded to a new or returning student entering their sophomore or junior year. Selection is based on financial need with priority given to students who embody the spirit of Routt. The student should have no major disciplinary problems, must show respect and concern for others and carry an overall grade point average of C or better.

The Routt Class of 1957 Scholarship was established by the Routt Catholic High School Class of 1957 in celebration of their 50th class reunion. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has demonstrated financial need and is in good academic standing with a C+ or above. In addition, the recipient will have demonstrated leadership ability, campus citizenship, and high personal standards.

The Collin Evans Scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Collin Joseph Evans, class of 2002, by family and friends. The scholarship shall be awarded to an upperclassman at Routt Catholic High School who displays an interest in any applied science or hands-on trade, be active in sports and/or other extra-curricular activities, and be attuned to the importance of the agricultural and engineering sciences in our daily lives. In addition, the recipient must be dedicated to doing his/her personal best, be known for demonstrating a positive attitude, and be appreciated and respected by faculty and students at RCHS.

The Dick Casler Scholarship was funded by family and friends and will be awarded to a junior who has demonstrated financial need.

The Drake and Hart Scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Bruce Drake, a 1979 Routt graduate. The scholarship will be awarded to a family (All grade levels) who has demonstrated a financial need.

The Edgar “Jack” McGinnis Scholarship was established with a charitable trust by Mr. McGinnis is 2011. The scholarship is awarded each year to any Routt student who demonstrates a financial need and is in good academic standing.

The Elynor Nergenah Scholarship was founded in 2005 by Mike Magill, class of 1985. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore through senior level student who has financial need, demonstrates respect and concern for others, has not had major disciplinary problems, and has shown academic potential (but is not required to be at top of his/her class), especially within the English department.

The Enter to Grow/Leave to Serve Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a student who is in attendance and participates at our Open House. All students or student’s parents who are present at the event will have their names entered into a drawing and at the end of the event, the student who is drawn will receive a $500 scholarship.

The Routt High School Education Foundation establishes this Fund in honor of Fr. Ken Venvertloh for his many years of service to Routt Catholic High School. The initial funding for the Fund will be established by the Foundation. The Foundation will provide an annual scholarship in the minimum amount of $5OO to a Routt student. The scholarship shall be awarded to a Routt student based on an essay in the area of human rights in the political arena. The essay shall be written by applicants who are sophomores at Routt Catholic High School. The scholarship shall be awarded for the scholarship winner’s junior year as a tuition credit. The Greg Tobin Memorial Scholarship was established by Greg’s family to commemorate a life well-lived. Greg was a 1978 graduate of Routt High School. While at Routt he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball, and he was a member of the National Honor Society. He continued his academic and athletic careers at Illinois College and then received a law degree from St. Louis University School of Law. The principal of the Fund is to be distributed annually to support a scholarship to an incoming junior or senior Routt student who has demonstrated financial need, is involved in sports, and has maintained a B average or better.

The Henry Hynes Scholarship was established by family, friends, and classmates in loving memory of Paul J. “Henry” Hynes, class of 1983. It is given to a freshman entering Routt Catholic High School who is community oriented, charitable, and involved in activities and extracurricular activities. An essay is required to be submitted to apply for this scholarship. Essays must be turned into the Routt Development Office by deadline. The J. Michael Flynn Scholarship is dedicated in honor of the J. Michael “Mike” and Mary Flynn Family. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a new or returning student who demonstrates financial need, carries an overall GPA of B or better (3.0 on 4.0 scale), and demonstrates respect and concern for others, leadership, and community service. If an incoming freshman, sophomore, or junior receives the scholarship, they will receive the scholarship annually until graduation so long as the student remains “in good standing” with all that is outlined above. Family and friends of John “J.T.” Hayes have established this memorial endowment fund with the Routt High School Education Foundation in support of Routt Catholic High School. The principal of the Fund is to be distributed annually to support a scholarship to a student who has demonstrated financial need and has maintained a C average or better.

The Jill Lawless Memorial scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Jill. This is an annual scholarship that may go to any student involved in extra-curricular activities (athletic, scholastic, or other type), who has demonstrated financial need, and has maintained a C average or better.

Virginia and Joe Farran Scholarship was established by their family to honor their contributions to family, church, and community. This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a freshman entering Routt Catholic High School. Priority in awarding this scholarship will be based on academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, Christian attitude and information provided in the application. The John E. and Mary Rose Doyle Scholarship was established in 2020 by James “Jim” Doyle (’77) in honor of his mother, Mary Rose, and his father, John, a 1932 Routt graduate. After graduating from Routt in 1977, Jim attended Illinois State University and then continued his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Some of Jim’s favorite memories of attending Routt include the many friendships, dedication and support of the faculty and staff, and learning the importance of working hard. Overall he states that his time at Routt was a wonderful experience and he is happy to honor his parents in this manner. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a student requiring financial need. The recipient should be a student that has no major disciplinary problems, who shows respect and concern for others, and who carries an overall GPA of B or better (3.0 on a 4.0 scale). Special preference should be given to students coming from a single parent household or dealing with a special circumstance that may result in a single income home.

The Kelly Peters Award and Scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Kelly Peters ’24 and is presented to a Routt student at the conclusion of their junior year. The annual award is based on a student who emulates the life of Kelly Peters. Kelly embodied what it means to be a student at Routt Catholic. She was faithful and kind. She worked hard, putting maximum effort into whatever activity she was doing – whether it was playing volleyball, basketball, or softball for the Rockets, or helping her family on the farm. The award recipient is decided by RCHS administration and faculty.

The Lawrence and Helen Quinlan Scholarship fund with the Routt High School Education Foundation in support of Routt Catholic High School, where they attended as well as all five of their children. The scholarship will be awarded annually to support a scholarship for up to two students who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years and who have maintained a GPA of at least 3.0. The student(s) must have demonstrated above-average character and citizenship during their attendance at Routt.

The Linda F. Dinelli Belobrajdic Scholarship was founded through memorial gifts and by her family after her passing. The scholarship is awarded annually to one student who has a financial need, demonstrates respect and concern for others, has no major disciplinary problems, and who has a ‘C’ average or better. All sophomores through seniors at RCHS for the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded who meet the criteria listed may be considered for the scholarship.

The Lockman Family Scholarship is awarded to a new or returning Catholic student whose family has demonstrated financial need. An essay on why the student wants to attend RCHS must be submitted to apply for the scholarship. Essays must be turned into the Routt Development Office by deadline. The Fellhauer Tuition Aid Scholarship was established in 2002 by the will of Mardell (Thompson) Fellhauer, class of 1937 and is awarded to an incoming freshman who has need, has shown leadership abilities, and is involved in extra curricular activities.

The Marilyn Merris Scholarship was founded through memorials and the family after the passing of this beloved English teacher. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need to one student who will be a sophomore through senior, has demonstrated respect and concern for others, and has had no disciplinary problems. The recipient must have an overall grade point average of “C” or better and excel in the field of English.

The Mary Ellen Lonergan English Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 to commemorate her life. Mary Ellen graduated from Routt High School in 1934 and went on to attend Illinois College where she studied teaching. Following her time at IC she began her 30-year teaching career in the same one-room schoolhouse that she attended as a child. In 1941 after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Mary Ellen went to St. Louis and was temporarily employed in a munitions factor and later as an instructor at Scott Field radio school in Belleville. She resumed her teaching career, teaching at Literberry, Our Saviour, and Franklin schools before retiring in 1977. Mary Ellen was truly a steward of God and a light to those around her. Mary Ellen and her husband, Don, were the proud parents of six children, and could often be found supporting their children, their 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Church of Our Saviour, where she served as Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister for 20 years. She was a charter member and Past Regent of the Court of Our Saviour’s Catholic Daughters of America, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Routt Alumni Association, and an associate member of the Springfield Dominicans. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis for a new or returning student entering their junior or senior year. The scholarship will be based on financial need as well as his or her strong desire to attend Routt Catholic High School.

The Matthew Langdon Scholarship was established in 2009 in memory of Matt, class of 1988, with proceeds from the annual Matt Langdon Memorial Golf Tournament. The scholarship shall go to a student who has demonstrated financial need, has maintained a C average or better, and is involved in extra-curricular activities. All students at RCHS are eligible for the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded who meet the criteria listed may be considered for the scholarship.

The Matthew R. Chumley Memorial Scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Matthew Robert Chumley in support of Routt Catholic High School. This scholarship was created by family and friends who attended the Matthew R. Chumley Free Throw Contest. This scholarship is to support a senior student who has a parent/grandparent who is an alumnus, has attended OSS K-8 and RCHS 9-11, has completed the Sacraments and participate in school Masses, and has participated in an extra-curricular activity for at least two years at RCHS. Along with an appplication, students must submit at essay which answers two fundamental questions: 1) How could you support a classmate who is struggling with a mental illness? 2) How can you bring awareness to mental health in a positive, hopeful, and pro-active way? The Maymie and Joe Bergschneider Scholarship was established by their family to honor their contributions to family, church, and community. This scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a freshman entering Routt Catholic High School. Priority in awarding this scholarship will be based on academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, Christian attitude and information provided in the application. The Monsignor Bud Spreen Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2005 by family and friends and will be awarded to a sophomore through junior level student who has financial need, demonstrates respect and concern for others, has had no major disciplinary problems, and has demonstrated excellence within the religion department and possesses a strong sense of their Catholic faith.

The Moore Memorial Music Scholarships were established in 2020 by Michael Moore and are dedicated in loving memory of his parents, Robert V. and Margaret (Shanahan) Moore. His father, Bob, was a lifelong Scott County farmer, and his mother, Margaret, was a 1933 Routt graduate who loved the time she spent at Routt and the friends that she made while there. The benefits of a Fine Arts education were very important to both Bob and Margaret, and their love for music was passed down to their son, Michael. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis to members of the band or choir entering their freshman through senior year. The scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s financial need and a proficiency in music as determined through a letter of recommendation from the students’ music instructors. The recipients should be in good academic standing, must show respect for teachers and fellow students, must show concern for others, and must not have any major disciplinary problems.

The Norbert McGinnis/Knights of Columbus Council #868 Scholarship was founded to honor the memory of Norbert McGinnis, past executive secretary of the Knights of Columbus, by family, friends and members of Council #868 of the Knights of Columbus. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Routt student (male or female student) to be applied towards tuition at Routt Catholic High School for their sophomore, junior, or senior year. Criteria include the following: 1) student’s parent or grandparent must be a member of the Knights of Columbus; 2) student must have at least a 3.0 GPA; 3) student must demonstrate concern for others by turning in at least 20 documented and approved community service hours into the RCHS guidance office; 4) student must be of sound moral character and a practicing Catholic. Paul and Clara Chumley Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 in loving memory of Paul and Clara (Ridder ’38) Chumley. Paul and Clara were devoted Routt fans and were the proud parents of six Routt graduates. They were members of the Church of Our Saviour and loved nothing more than to support their grandchildren in all of their endeavors. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a Routt student who is a member of the Church of Our Saviour and demonstrates financial need

The Peter B. Orlandini Scholarship was established to honor Peter Orlandini, class of 1934, and the pride he held for his experience at Routt High School. The scholarship will be awarded to any student who has and maintains an average grade point average and who participates in community affairs, such as social and charitable organizations and/or extra curricular activities.

The Placement Exam Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded annually to the incoming freshman who earns the highest score on the High School Placement Test offered at Routt Catholic High School.

Rachel’s Gift is dedicated in loving memory of Rachel Beeley ’24, and was established in 2023 from memorial gifts from Rachel’s family and friends. Rachel was the daughter of Chad and Stacy Beeley and the sister of Julia (‘23). Rachel loved her family, her friends, and all animals; especially her dogs, Millie, Duke, and Charlie. A member of the Church of Our Saviour, Rachel was a nurturer in every aspect of the word, always putting others’ needs first. She was known as someone who could always put a smile on another’s face. She was loved by so many. Funds are distributed annually among all Routt students who have at least one parent/legal guardian who is a current full-time or part-time classroom teacher at Our Saviour School.

Ralph and Agnes Johnson were both born and raised in central Illinois, in the Catholic faith. Ralph Johnson’s mother, Margaret (nee Murphy), was one of the first graduates of Routt High School. At the time of this scholarship’s establishment in 2023, five generations of Johnsons had received a faith-based education at Routt, with the expectation of more generations to follow. In wake of Ralph’s passing in April 2023, Agnes established a scholarship in her family’s name to support Routt students as they pursue faith-based educations, careers in health care and service to others. The scholarship is awarded to a student interested in health care, with a GPA of B or higher (3.0 on 4.0 scale), and no major disciplinary issues. The family of Robert Gary Bangert established this Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2015, and will be awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student from either Bluffs or Scott County, or from a local Christian School who is continuing their education at Routt. The student must be in good academic standing and must submit a letter of recommendation from the student’s pastor.

The Rosetta Magner Doyle Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 by Rosetta’s family to commemorate her life. Rosetta graduated from Routt High School in 1933. After high school, Rosetta married Joseph E. Doyle and together they had two boys, Thomas (Tom) and Edward (Ed), both of whom went on to attend Our Saviour School. Joseph tragically passed away in 1967 when Ed was still at Our Saviour and Tom was a freshman at Routt High School, but Rosetta’s Catholic values and strong belief in a Catholic education resulted in both boys graduating from Routt High School in 1971 and 1974, respectively. Rosetta was an incredibly strong individual, stepping into an ownership role at Doyle Plumbing and Heating upon Joseph’s death, but her friends, families, and sons worked hard to keep the business alive and well. Rosetta was proud to know that her sons carried on her belief in Catholic Education, with each of them sending their children through both Our Saviour and Routt High School. Rosetta was an avid fan of all things Routt and she never hesitated to donate time, money, or resources to help the school succeed. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis for a new or returning student entering their sophomore or junior year. The recipient of the scholarship should be a student that demonstrates financial need, has an excellent work ethic, and truly supports the mission of the school. The student should have no disciplinary problems, show respect and concern for others, and carry an overall grade point average of C or better

The Routt Board of Directors Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a student who registers during the early registration timeframe. All students who are registered prior to the final day of early registration will have their names entered into a drawing, and the student who is drawn will receive a $500 scholarship.

The Sally Eoff Baptist Leadership Scholarship was founded through memorial gifts and softball tournaments after Sally passed away in January 2006. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a female student graduating from Our Saviour Grade School who has demonstrated leadership abilities in the classroom and in extracurricular activities and will be applied to tuition at Routt Catholic High School.

The Sister Cecilianne Duello Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 in memory of Sister Cecilianne. Her longest ministry assignment was at Our Saviour Parish where she directed the religious education program and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults from 1995-2015. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is continuing his or her education at Routt Catholic High School, has demonstrated financial need, is in good academic standing, and lives and shares their Christian values. In order to be considered for the scholarship, the applicant should submit a letter of recommendation from his/her pastor to the Development Office prior to the scholarship deadline.

The Spirit of Routt Scholarship was established in 2024 in honor of Owen Joseph Cors, son of Brad (’94) and Sarah (Bordenkircher ’95) Cors, and brother of Braden ’22, Evan ’27, Bryce, Eli, and Ava. The Cors family always looked forward to watching their children participate in extracurricular activities at Routt and wanted to honor a student who embodies the spirit and characteristics of an energetic and hard-working Routt student who is engaged in his/her school and extracurricular activities while always displaying a positive attitude, motivating others, and putting the needs of others first. The (male or female) student is involved in athletics/extracurriculars in some form, either as a participant or as a supporter of his/her classmates; must display a positive attitude while making significant contributions to a Routt sports team, organization, or club; must have no major disciplinary problems; must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25; and be of sound moral character with preference given to a practicing Catholic. The recipient is selected by administration and faculty.

The Tony Gaudio Leadership Scholarship was founded through memorial gifts after he passed away in 2011. The recipient of this award will be a male student graduating from Our Saviour Grade School who has demonstrated leadership abilities in the classroom and in extracurricular activities and will be applied to his freshman year tuition at Routt Catholic High School.

The US Bank Scholarship was established in 2013. Multiple scholarships will be awarded annually to any student(s) who has a financial need, demonstrates respect and concern for others, have no major disciplinary problems, and who has a ‘C’ average or better. All freshmen through seniors at RCHS who meet the criteria listed may be considered for the scholarship.

The Vince Lonergan Family Scholarship is dedicated in loving memory of Kevin Vincent Clancy in support of Routt Catholic High School. The recipient of this award will be a returning Routt student who is a junior or senior who has at least one parent who has graduated from RCHS, has participated in an extra-curricular activity for at least 2 years at RCHS, has maintained an overall GPA of 2.0 or better, demonstrates leadership and respect/concern for others, and must have no major disciplinary problems. The William & Elizabeth Kindred Memorial Scholarship was initially created by Liz’s husband and her three sons in 2018, and was revised after William’s passing in 2019. The scholarship is specifically intended to support students who are willing to commute to jacksonville in order to attend Routt Catholic High School. Bill grew up in Morgan County and Liz lived in Waverly, IL. Bill attended Routt High School while Liz attended Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, IL (now Sacred Heart-Griffin). The Kindred’s were wed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin and went on to raise a family. Despite continuing to reside in Waverly, IL, Bill and Liz made the decision to send all three of their sons, Bill (’79), Steve (’83), and Joe (’88) to Routt, where all were extremely active with academics, athletics, and other extracurriculars. Bill and Liz were known as dedicated and loyal fans of the Rocket sports family and active members of the Church of Our Saviour. The scholarship will be awarded annually for a new or returning student entering grades sophomore, junior, or senior. The student must reside outside the Jacksonville/South Jacksonville city limits and must demonstrate financial need.
